WordGrinder 0.7 released!

I’ve just released version 0.7 of WordGrinder, my minimal word processor for processing words for Linux, Windows and OSX. There’s nothing particularly noteworthy; it’s just a pileup of new features and bugfixes that needed releasing.

Brand new website

Finally, finally, I’ve done the much-delayed revamp of my entire website. I’ve migrated from the old, beloved, completely custom and somewhat janky content management system to jekyll, a new, irritating and somewhat janky content management system. I’ve also gone through and tried to recover the publication dates for a lot of the really, really old stuff — some of it’s undateable but at least two pages date back to 1995. I can also publish stuff in both Markdown (like this one), and I can also drop WordGrinder files straight in and they’ll work. Nothing should have moved and the new styling is completely Javascript-free, so it’s snappy and quick to load. Although it does need CSS3. Old Internet Explorer users will be out of luck.

Cowgol 0.1.1 released!

I’ve just released version 0.1.1 of Cowgol, my new Ada-inspired programming language for the 6502 on the 6502! Yes, with Cowgol, you can use a BBC Micro to compile your programs into genuine machine code! Slowly.

Saturday walk: Sgùman Còinntich and Killilan

Another couple of the mountains of my childhood: Ben Killilan and the wonderfully (if unpronouncably) named Sgùman Còinntich. These in fact turned out not to be the mountain that was visible, neatly framed between two slopes, directly out the front of our house, which I had been wondering about climbing them for years; in fact, after some careful work with Google Maps afterwards, these were the mountains next to that one. Yes, I climbed the wrong mountain. The one I was intending to climb was actually Faochaig, which is much harder to get to. But never mind…
